About this tool
Why it exists.
CSV is the simplest way to move tables between spreadsheets and databases, and JSON is what most web apps and APIs use. Converting between them by hand is tedious and easy to get wrong, especially when values contain commas or quotes.
Paste your data or open a file and the result appears instantly. In CSV mode the first row can become the keys of each JSON object. In JSON mode a list of objects becomes a table, with one column per key. Quoted values, embedded commas and line breaks are handled.
How to use it.
- Choose CSV → JSON or JSON → CSV.
- Paste your data or open a file, and set the options.
- Copy the result or download it as a file.
Good questions.
How does it handle commas inside values?
Values wrapped in double quotes may contain commas, quotes (written as two double quotes) and line breaks. The converter reads and writes them correctly.
What JSON can be converted to CSV?
A list of objects such as [{"name":"Ada"}], or a list of lists. Nested objects are written as JSON text in a single cell.
Why are numbers not quoted in the JSON?
With Convert numbers and true/false ticked, values like 36 become numbers. Values like 007 stay text so leading zeros are not lost. Untick it to keep every value as text.
