About this tool
Why it exists.
A good quote is based on a breakdown of the work, not a guess. Listing tasks with hours makes the price easier to explain and easier for a client to agree to.
Add your tasks with estimated hours, then enter your hourly rate, expenses and a contingency buffer for revisions and surprises. You can also apply a discount and tax. The calculator shows total hours, labour cost, the subtotal with buffer and the final quote. The default tasks are only an example, so replace them with your own.
How to use it.
- List your tasks and the hours each will take.
- Enter your hourly rate, expenses, buffer, discount and tax.
- Read the total hours, labour, subtotal and final quote.
Good questions.
How big should the contingency buffer be?
Many freelancers add 10–20% for revisions and small scope changes. Use a higher figure for unfamiliar work or unclear briefs.
Should I quote a fixed price or an hourly rate?
A fixed price rewards efficiency but needs a clear scope. Hourly pricing protects you when requirements are uncertain. This tool helps you reach a fixed price from your own estimates.
Is tax included in the quote?
Only if you enter a tax rate. Leave it at 0 to quote before tax, then add tax or VAT according to the rules that apply to you.
