About this tool
Why it exists.
Goods and Services Tax, or GST, is charged in many countries including India, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Canada. The rate and the rules differ, but the arithmetic for adding or removing it is the same.
Choose Add GST to turn a price before tax into a total, or Remove GST to find the price before tax inside a total. Pick a rate from the list or enter your own. The tool also shows half of the GST, which is the CGST or SGST share for a sale inside one Indian state. Always confirm the current rate for your goods or services.
How to use it.
- Choose Add GST or Remove GST.
- Enter the amount and pick or type the GST rate.
- Read the amount before GST, the GST, the total and the CGST/SGST share.
Good questions.
How do I calculate GST on a price?
Multiply the price by the rate and add it. At 18%, a price of 1,000 gives GST of 180 and a total of 1,180.
How do I remove GST from a total?
Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. At 18%, 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = 1,000, so the GST is 180.
What are CGST and SGST?
In India, a sale inside one state charges GST split equally between the central government (CGST) and the state (SGST). Sales between states use IGST instead. The tool shows half of the GST for the first case.
