About this tool

Why it exists.

A time card records when you start and finish work each day. Adding those shifts by hand is slow, especially with breaks and overnight work. This calculator does it for the whole week at once.

Enter the start time, end time and unpaid break for each day you worked and leave the other days blank. Totals appear in hours and minutes and in decimal hours, which is what most payroll and invoicing systems expect. Add an hourly rate to see gross pay for the week. Shifts that end after midnight are handled automatically.

How to use it.

  1. Enter start, end and break minutes for each day worked.
  2. Optionally enter your hourly rate.
  3. Read total hours, decimal hours, days worked and gross pay.

Good questions.

How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?

Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5 hours, and 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.

How are overnight shifts counted?

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the tool assumes the shift ends the next day. A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 is 8 hours before breaks.

Does it calculate overtime?

No. Overtime rules differ by country, contract and employer. Use the total hours here and apply your own overtime rules.
