About this tool
Why it exists.
Counting days between dates comes up for deadlines, contracts, trips, notice periods, pregnancies and countdowns. Doing it by hand across months of different lengths is easy to get wrong.
Pick a start date and an end date. The calculator shows the total days, how many fall on weekdays and weekends, the same span in weeks and days, and in years, months and days. Tick the box to count the end date as well, which some contracts and bookings require. Public holidays are not removed because they differ by country and year.
How to use it.
- Choose the start date and the end date.
- Tick the end-date box if the last day should be counted.
- Read the days, working days and the breakdown in weeks and months.
Good questions.
Is the end date counted?
By default no: 1 January to 2 January is 1 day. Tick the option to include it, so the same span becomes 2 days.
Are public holidays removed from working days?
No. Working days are Monday to Friday only. Subtract public holidays yourself because they depend on the country and year.
What happens if the end date is before the start date?
The dates are swapped so the answer is always positive.
